
CENTENNIAL SONG and HYMN WRITING CONTEST
MECHANICS & GUIDELINES
I. General Rules – subject to changes as may be determined appropriate, the following General Rules apply:
A. A registration/entry fee of Php 200.00 shall be paid to the Chairman of the Committee or his/her representative.
B. The Competition of original centennial song and hymn writing is open to faculty members, staff, students, alumni, stakeholders and other UCC constituents.
C. The song/hymn should be contemporary and composed by a bonafide UCC constituent. Lyrics and music should be original. It should not have been sung or performed, neither should it be an adaptation.
D. The song/hymn could be accompanied by any musical instrument that the composer may so desire.
E. There could be a lyricist, a music writer or both for each category. An arranger is optional.
F. The song/hymn has to be passed in written form together with the music to the Centennial Song and Hymn Committee for final evaluation and judging.
G. The song/hymn lyrics should be in English Language and have a maximum of three (3) stanzas and a refrain. It should reflect the Vision and Mission of the College.
H. The organizing committee shall be responsible for the dissemination of the contest to all participating institutions.
I. All entries, once submitted to the organizing committee become the property of Union Christian College.
J. The preliminary eliminations shall be on the following tentative dates:
1st Elimination & 2nd Elimination - June to Dec. 2009
Final Judging - January 2010
*Top three entries from each category will be selected for the final judging.
K. There will only be one winner for each category.
L. The decision of the Board of Judges shall be final and irrevocable.
II. Guidelines for each Category
Category I – Song Writing Contest:
a. General Rules shall apply.
b. The song shall be a loyalty song as a faithful demonstration of one’s faith and allegiance.
c. Music maybe in unison or in voices with or without accompaniment.
d. The song shall be in a bright and festive mood, to be distinguished from that of the hymn.
Category II – Hymn Writing Contest:
a. General Rules shall apply.
b. The composed hymn shall be an expression of praise and thanksgiving
to God for and in behalf of the throughout its 100 years of existence.
c. Music shall be in parts, ranging from 2-4 voices. Accompaniment is optional.
d. The hymn shall be in a more solemn mode, utilizing the minor tonality so as distinguish itself from that of the song.
